There's Poison In This Water, the Words Are Falling Out
This Air Is Getting So Thin

Fingers curled under the curve of his chin, thoughtful as his brows furrowed. Dull sapphires appraised the goods of the traveling merchant from a brief distance, keeping his own space as throngs of curious browsers flooded through the market stall. It was no common happening, rumors had spread aplenty that the vendor had been spotted after an unknown time of absence. The elder exchanged pleasant conversation with those who voiced their mix of inquiries to him over the manner of wares on display.

Dusk was beginning to descend, a reminder as he cast his eyes upwards as a large heavy storm cloud drifted over the remnants of the sun. The weak rays were temporarily entirely blocked by the unnatural shroud that hovered over the city and the coming of the storm, causing his hand to fall to his side, closer to the blade at his hip. He didn't know what he had expected to discover on display, but there was a twinge of disappointment regardless. It was highly unlikely that in the heart of the leeches that there would be any silver to be found, let alone artifacts that could be used to more easily dispatch of them.

However, as a sack of powder was adjusted upon the display stand, it revealed an amulet upon a gilded chain. The brilliant gem called to mind a distant memory of his family. An old portrait that used to linger above the mantle of their fireplace in which his mother had donned something similar, an article that looked almost as if it could have been looted from the childhood home that had been stripped from him. Despite himself, he would gravitate through the small crowd that was slowly dispersing with the coming night towards the caravan. "The necklace there, how much?" he inquired, holding it up towards the merchant in emphasis. "Ah, for the amulet, monsieur, that will be two thousand crescents." He would continue to describe the precious metals that crafted the piece, details that Lif admittedly held little interest in as he allowed the hefty coin purse to fall onto the counter in answer, carefully placing the jewelry into the velvet lined satchel at his side. He would have it appraised later, though the feeling of the interlocking links spoke that the gold was not cheap, however, for now he had his own agenda.

After all, his visit to Lavalles this evening was not for leisure.
