{backdated before the battle}
The wind was soft, lightly ruffling Codrin’s ebony mane strands, playing with his long tail. Twigs and leaves were littering his long hairs, and Vali clicked his tongue in disapproval as he plucked the debris from his horse’s mane. A brush in his free hand, he ran it down the stallion’s neck in smooth, clockwork motions. The steed nickered gingerly, almost inaudible, begging for a treat. Vali rolled his ocean eyes and growled in response - but gave in and gave the needy mule an apple. Finally happy, the stallion stayed still as he moved to the tail and began combing it through.
The sun peeked through the canopy, dappling the pair as they relaxed on a rather lazy afternoon. Vali would need to find a hiding spot for Codrin while he entered this battle he’d heard about among whispers. He heard a lot about it when he was in town for the patch up over his cut arm. It was almost healed by now, still a little tender but it was done correctly by such a sweet little lady. He waved the thought away with an absent minded flick of the wrist, moving onto the beast’s massive, fur covered hooves.
He heaved a sigh as he worked expertly with his horse, lost in thought, and in a rare moment where his guard was down.
